Viva in Vitro Diagnostics, once again among APTE’s TOP 100 startups

Viva in Vitro Diagnostics entre las TOP 100 startups España de APTE en 2026

Starting 2026 among the TOP 100 startups in Spain selected by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE) is more than a recognition. For Viva in Vitro Diagnostics, being included for the second consecutive year means embracing the responsibility to continue contributing to an ecosystem where science, innovation and business growth move forward together.

The selection, announced by APTE in December, brings together the most outstanding startups based in science and technology parks across Spain. A list that not only highlights individual projects, but also underscores the role of these environments as key hubs for knowledge transfer, talent attraction and the development of high-impact technology companies.

A recognition that strengthens Spain’s innovation ecosystem

Being part of this TOP 100 for the second year in a row reflects more than a moment of success. It speaks to continuity, the ability to evolve, and a sustained commitment to turning high-level research into real-world solutions.

The APTE list also offers a meaningful snapshot of Spain’s innovation ecosystem: alongside digital technologies, sectors such as biotechnology and health are gaining prominence, consolidating their role as strategic drivers of the country’s economic and social future. A diverse ecosystem, geographically distributed and increasingly supported by a solid base of growth-stage projects.

Biotechnology and health, key sectors among Spain’s TOP 100 startups

Viva in Vitro Diagnostics is a biomedical leader in immunological medicine, developing VIVA-ELISA®, a technology based on the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome for the early identification, stratification and rapid screening of critically ill septic patients.

The company collaborates with Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), as well as with the public health systems of Andalusia and the Region of Murcia, integrating research, clinical practice and technological development in real-world healthcare settings.

In 2024, Viva in Vitro Diagnostics was selected by the EIC Transition programme (Horizon Europe), receiving €2.5 million in funding, a milestone that reinforces its scientific robustness and European growth potential.

Starting 2026 among Spain’s TOP 100 startups: vision and responsibility

At Viva in Vitro Diagnostics, we understand this recognition as a starting point, not a destination. Beginning the year as part of this group reinforces a clear commitment: to continue advancing biomedical innovation from the laboratory to clinical practice, with tangible impact on patients, healthcare professionals and health systems.

Spain has outstanding scientific talent, first-class infrastructures and proven research capacity. The major challenge remains transforming that knowledge into scalable, competitive and sustainable companies. Initiatives such as APTE’s TOP 100 help to make this journey visible and to connect projects with investors, partners and key institutions.

From science to clinical impact: the Viva in Vitro Diagnostics approach

Since its origins as a biomedical spin-off, Viva in Vitro Diagnostics has worked with a clear conviction: innovation only matters when it reaches those who need it. This requires scientific rigour, institutional collaboration and a business vision aligned with the demands and realities of the healthcare sector.

This recognition comes at a time of project consolidation and preparation for the next stages, always from a perspective of responsible growth, grounded in evidence, collaboration and long-term vision.

Being part of APTE’s TOP 100 startups for the second consecutive year is an incentive to keep building and contributing value to an ecosystem that needs projects capable of bringing together science, enterprise and purpose.

In the coming days, we will delve deeper into this vision through a full interview with our Managing Director, Toni Vilaplana, where we will explore in greater detail the challenges facing the biotechnology sector, Spain’s role in this field, and Viva in Vitro Diagnostics’ roadmap for the years ahead.
